Classic Boats racing on the Menai Strait
The Menai Strait One Design is a classic 20ft (6m) sailing boat built of mahogany on oak frames. It has removable internal ballast and a lifting centreplate and is specifically designed for the exciting waters of the Menai Strait in North Wales. It is traditionally a sailing boat but a motor can be easily added if needed. It can be sailed by a crew of two or more and there is also a single handed race series for the really keen sailors.
There are 17 boats in our fleet. The first MS (Britannia) was built in 1937, and the next 16 were built from 1938 to 1952.
Throughout the summer MSODs compete in races organised by the Royal Anglesey Yacht Club on Saturday afternoons and Wednesday evenings. There are also special bank holiday races and the famous Menai Strait Regattas in July/August.
Everyone welcome!
